  • Here you see that the Day cottage was successfully launched off the shores of Campbells Point. CP lost a fiesty member that day but won a moral victory against Phelps and his greedy henchmen.
  • Ned decided to move his cottage to Pillar Point. In the picture above you can see that cottage #11 was being placed on the barge at the (current) site of the sea wall located in front of cottage #11.
  • The "Little Dock". When seen in close proximity we can see why these docks were given such simple yet succinct names. Names that we continue to identify these two docks over 100 years later!
  • A group of people crossing the Bedford Creek Bridge for a day of Picnicing at Campbells Point near the turn of the century.
  • The image is old and faded but if you look carefully you can see the Old Homestead as it sat next to Cottage 23.
  • Rare photo of the "Big Dock" located in front of cottage #23, showing the original "L" shape of the dock like its counterpart (the Little Dock). Look closely, the sides of the dock are made of wood!

Almost every summer I would hear the story of how Campbell's Point became a private Association. This is a story that involved "good guys" and "bad guys" a story that had drama, close calls and of course - a happy ending.

One of the "close calls" in the early days of Campbell's Point's transition from public to private property was the story of Ned Day's Cottage.

Back then, all of the cottages were on land owned by the company. The cottagers leased or rented the land their cottages stood on but owned the physical building - their cottages.

Ned's cottage (located where cottage #11 stands today) was -like the rest of the cottages - on rented land. In 1918, Ned Day's was the first lease to run out and Phelps would not renew the lease. The company thought Day had no choice but to just turn over his cottage to them....WRONG.....

Post Script : Ned Day got his cottage to Pillar Point, unfortunately at some point within the next year the cottage burned to the ground.
