Almost every summer I would hear the story of how Campbell's Point became a private Association. This is a story that involved "good guys" and "bad guys" a story that had drama, close calls and of course - a happy ending.

One of the "close calls" in the early days of Campbell's Point's transition from public to private property was the story of Ned Day's Cottage.

Back then, all of the cottages were on land owned by the company. The cottagers leased or rented the land their cottages stood on but owned the physical building - their cottages.

Ned's cottage (located where cottage #11 stands today) was -like the rest of the cottages - on rented land. In 1918, Ned Day's was the first lease to run out and Phelps would not renew the lease. The company thought Day had no choice but to just turn over his cottage to them....WRONG.....

Post Script : Ned Day got his cottage to Pillar Point, unfortunately at some point within the next year the cottage burned to the ground.
